The artwork associated with el Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is filled with bright colors and ornate designs.
Elaborate skeleton figurines, called catrinas, are created to honor loved ones that have past away.
It was my affection for these elements that allowed La Catrina! to spring to life.
La Catrina! was awarded 1st Place in the Pequeno Formato (small format art) show at daas Gallery in Fort Myers in December 2008. The exhibit was curated by artist Veron Ennis.
