La Catrina! was inspired by my interest in the Mexican holiday, Day of the Dead. Elaborate skeleton figurines and sugar skulls are created to honor loved ones that have past away. The artwork associated with Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is filled with bright colors and ornate designs. It was my fixation on those elements that brought this piece together.

La Catrina! was awarded 1st Place in the Pequeno Formato (small format art) Show at daas Gallery in Fort Myers in December 2008. The exhibit was curated by artist Veron Ennis.
